Listed for your consideration today is a vintage Cast Iron Capron Mechanical Bank called Elephant. The approximate dimensions are 5 3/8" tall by 7 1/8" long. The bank is in excellent working condition with no chips, cracks, repairs, or repaints. The bank could use a little cleaning which I will leave to the decision of the successful bidder. The bank operates by placing a coin in the elephants trunk. You then raise his tail and the trunk swings up depositing the coin in the Howdah. There were 12 different Capron Banks produced during the late fifties and early sixties. They were very well made duplicating the originals closely and have become highly sought by knowledgeable collectors. As a result they offer good upside investment potential since they can still be acquired at a fraction of the cost of the originals that were produced in the 19th and early 20th centuries when those banks were available relatively cheap. NOTE: IF YOU ARE A RECENT CAPRON COLLECTOR BE AWARE OF THE BANKS YOU OFTEN SEE ON EBAY OFFERING ORIGINAL BROWN CARDBOARD BOXES AND CERTIFICATES OF AUTHENTICITY WITH THE BANKS. THESE ARE RECENT REPRODUCTIONS COMING OUT OF CHINA AND INDIA. THE CERTIFICATES HAVE A ZIP CODE ON THE ADDRESS AND ZIP CODES BEGAN JULY 1ST 1963!
