Biography:

Biography from Crocker Art Museum Store:
Painter. Born in Indiana on Jan. 24, 1877.

Small left Chicago and settled in San Diego in 1894. After retiring as manager of the National Biscuit Company, he started painting as a hobby in 1936. He then studied locally for five years with Alfred Mitchell and Maurice Braun whose influence is seen in his work. His work includes landscapes and desert scenes.

Small died in San Diego on June 24, 1962. Member: La Jolla AA; San Diego Businessmen's Art Club (pres. 1942); San Diego FA Guild; Village Art Center.

Exh: San Diego Art Center, 1942 (solo); San Diego FA Guild, 1942, 1946) 1948 (1st prize); La Jolla Art Center, 1944. In: San Diego Chamber of Commerce. CD; DR.
