THE CHINOOK TRADE JARGON
on CD
You are bidding on a complied collection of CHINOOK JARGON files and dictionaries. Use them to learn or better understand the Trade Language used along the Pacific Northwest Coastline, and Columbia River during the time of LEWIS & CLARK, and the years that followed.
Still spoken to a small degree, in the Pacific Northwest. Jargon is a mixture of English, Spainish, French and local tribal languges. School students, and locals, know words such as; Sasquatch, potlatch, tolo, alki, tumtum and others. Many old time Northwesterner's speak with love of their klotchman .
A lovely and easy language to learn. This cd includes several dictionaries from the late 1800's and early 1900's. Many were purchased and scanned expressly for this CD.
Also included on this CD are text examples such as "The Lord's Prayer", and the poem "Twis' The Night Before Christmas."
I don't think you'll find as complete a collection anywhere else on this topic.
A great educational tool. Informative for history buffs, and those who study our Native American cultures. And just in time for the LEWIS & CLARK celebration.
Many files are in PDF format, easy to use on any computer.
