A magnificent mask from the borders of Angola and Zambia. This female mask represents the ancestral spirit of Pwo or Pwevo a young female who died suddenly. She is the archetype of female beauty and womanhood. She also encourages fertility. The mask is danced by a man during the mukanda initiation ceremonies and other important occassions. Chipped.
