CHROMALIN SHEET: KEN KELLY 2 METALLIC STORM CARD SET

GENUINE PRE-PRODUCTION CHROMALIN SHEET 5-ACETATE LAYERS DEEP WITH FOIL STOCK IN PLACE   ONE-OF-A-KIND   OBTAINED DIRECTLY FROM THE PRINTER! NEVER BEFORE OFFERED TO THE COLLECTOR!   KEN KELLY SERIES 2 TRADING CARDS (FPG/1994)   (pictured above: all 5 layers making up the final product)   *NOTE: The Cardboard card stock that is used (in the background) is WHITE in person. It photographed yellow-ish from the type of lighting used & in conjunction with the reflection of the acetate finish on the top 4 layers of this sheet    This listing is for an AUTHENTIC PRINTER'S PROOF PRE-PRODUCTION "CHROMALIN SHEET" of the 5-different METALLIC STORM chase cards from the KEN KELLY SERIES 2 release of trading cards (FPG/1994). Each card is featured twice for a total of 10 cards on the sheet.    This beautiful collector's item was obtained directly from the original printer of these trading cards. The entire piece measures 12" X 16" & is comprised of 4 Ultra Thin Acetate pages (each in the different printing colors of Black, Yellow, Cyan & Magenta) & a thick cardboard card stock in which the final layer has the foil (Metallic Storm) finish to it. Each card on the sheet measures the actual size of 2.5" X 3.5".   Chromalins are the first tangible print of the card art on a plastic type material (*More information about the CHROMALIN process is below).   This item can clearly be the focus piece of any trading card collection. It is a production piece that was never meant to be officially seen by the public!
The "finished" look of the artwork is not fully realized until all four top layers are in place & put over the foil cardboard stock (each plastic acetate sheet is taped to the top of the cardboard/bottom layer so that you can still flip through the colors if you want).   IT'S SEEING THE LAYERING PROCESS OF A FOIL CHASE CARD LIKE NEVER BEFORE!   A PROGRESSIVE PROOF LIKE NO OTHER!   To help illustrate this process I took apart another (different) chromalin Metallic Storm sheet I had & photographed each acetate layer separately & then the final cardboard/foil bottom layer.   The sample images are from a different trading card release & are being used to help illustrate the layers of this unique item. The images shown below & the sheet they are from are NOT included in this listing. This listing is only for the chromalin sheet as described in the item's title & upper description.   Below are photos from each clear acetate sheet, which was placed on top of a white background (which unfortunately photographed yellowish). Each of these colored layers are on a fully "clear" acetate finish.   (1st layer: yellow)   (2nd layer: magenta)   (3rd layer: cyan)   (4th acetate layer: black)   (5th layer (cardboard): with Foil in place)   (finished/layered product)       MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE "CHROMALIN" & IT'S PLACE IN THE PRODUCTION OF A TRADING CARD:   "In the printing industry, proofs are made of images that have been separated into their component colors (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black in the case of full-color images). Chromalin proofs are a standard, albeit expensive way of producing accurate color proofs of these color images. Chromalins are film proofs made using a patented DuPont system of mixing colored cyan, magenta, yellow, and black dye powders to approximate the printed colors, in the case of full-color images. (Chromalins can also be produced to proof spot color images using other colors of ink.) They provide a way of previewing a printed image without actually making plates and printing it on a press."   It was stored flat & is in good condition. It is ready to be framed for an awesome piece of wall art!   Because of the expense & limited intended use of a complete sheet like this, it can easily be assumed that this is truly a one-of-a-kind item. Since this item was never offered to the Collector officially by FPG Publishing, it is impossible to know for sure. FPG is now out-of-business, but I can guarantee the authenticity of this sheet, as it was obtained directly from the printer hired to print & package the series for FPG.    Slight to moderate corner/edge damage, slight creasing & slight surface scratches should be expected. In some instances the corner or border will have an approving "signature" and or date & other notes. Nothing too intrusive & nothing that interferes with the cards themselves.   Item will be shipped flat to protect it during shipment.
