Dark blue, hard cloth cover with embossed decoration, gold title. No Jacket. 7¾" x 9¾" tall. All 1154 pages are present and clean, including appendix, index, 4-page ad for "Oracle of the Age" by Wm. M. Thayer on back pages. Tight and unmarked. Marbelized edges, end papers. Book was sold by subscription, small numbered label inside front cover. Shelf wear at the corners and spine ends. These memoirs focus on General Butler's service in the Civil War. A lengthy appendix contains copies of letters to and from General Butler and reproduction of Lincoln letters on pgs. 389, 569.
