"COCOLO" a fabulous story about a Donkey (Cocolo) and a little boy (Babbo). The book was written by the "BETTINA". I can find no date on this book... On the (badly worn) dust cover it has HARPER & BROTHERS PUBLISHERS, and below that #7092, under that 50-80. On the back flap of the cover, it has a picture of the author, and a little resume. It states that she was working on this book during the fire-raids of 1944, in London, and that the manuscript and pictures spent every night in an air raid shelter, though she herself didn't.
Now the book - It has a very delapidated dust cover... almost not in one piece. I will leave as is.,. and the new owner can tape it or whatever. It needs loving care. The book cover has wear. The board cover is illustrated, as shown in Photo #1. It is clean but.. corners worn... spine cover paper on top and bottom about l" are missing. The dust jacket did its job and kept the book clean and neat. The inside: It has a pencil (Herr) word written on first blank page at the upper right hand corner, and a little sticky residue. From there... we have pages that are clean, no rips or tears.. and no scribbles.... It rates as "has been read condition" I have to classify this book as in VERY GOOD CONDITION
NOW: We come to another very interesting and added value to this very collectible book. In about the middle of the book, there is a piece of white paper about l" x 3" long attached to the spine (where and when it came from is a mystery to me)... but on this piece of paper is neatly typewritten the following : "E R R A T U M" and underneath the following: 'The first and last captions on the facing page should be reversed"...... Quite an interesting note... and it is quite true...
Wow!!!!!!! Here we have a very good, collectors copy of a great story, written by a great author/illustrator, with wonderful colored and b/w pictures throughout the book.
