This software package comes on a CDROM which includes versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader and Microsoft WORD for displaying the documentation (manual is included on the CDROM). BMP images files for each page of the manual are also included. This is a full (not just a demo) MSDOS product (will run in an MSDOS window with Windows 3.1, 95, 98, 2000, XP, Vista). Will not work on dual core Vista machines without 16-bit support.

COINS is short for COmputerized Inventory of Numismatic Stock. It is written by Marvin C. Mallon, a noted columnist for Coin World magazine. COINS enables the serious numismatist to catalog an entire collection and obtain several reports that serve for personal investment information.

The principal feature of COINS is its built-in standard coin file. Included are 1600 hundred common U.S. coin descriptions, with room for market value according to grade. This provides an automatic means for tracking the value of your collection. You may update the prices yourself using Scott's, which allows you to stay up to date with the latest prices.

The data file includes:

small cents since 1856

nickel five-cent pieces since 1883

dimes since 1892

quarters since 1892

half-dollars since 1839

dollars since 1878

Entering a coin is accomplished by referring to the coin's number from the standard coin list (included in the system). Not only the coin's description (mint, date, denomination, etc.), but its value across most grades is immediately displayed. You designate the grade and the computer takes care of the rest. You may include what you paid for the coin, and from whom it was purchased. You may also alter the market value of any entry. U.S. coins (other than the initial 1,600) and proof sets and rolls may also be entered. A quantity column allows tracking of duplicate coins.

Included in the COINS package are the disk, a 48-page user's manual (on disk).
