WOW!!!!!  STARTS AT JUST $9.99 AND LISTED WITH NO RESERVE PRICE! DECORATIVE ANTIQUE KUNGRAT EMBROIDERED PANEL (Ilgich), Central Asia, Uzbekistan, late 19th - early 20th century, and in very good albeit, slightly fragmented, condition. Kungrat embroideries like this specimen, created for ritual and ceremony, especially in relation to marriage and motherhood, helped perpetuate cultural identity. With its two large and elaborate spider-like patterns, a skilled and aesthetically sensitive woman embroiderer has not only created a distinctive surface texture but also emphasizes the movement and rhythm of the pattern through specific placement of individual stitches. Composed of silk chain stitch embroidery on a finely woven and felted red wool plain-weave field and backed with floral-designed Russian trade cloth on the reverse. The Kungrat, Lakai, and other Uzbek peoples call these shields "uuk kap ilgich". A near-identical specimen from the Jack and Aviva Collection at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (# 2004.259.34) is published by Kate Fitz Gibbon and Andrew Hale in "Uzbek Embroidery", page 120. These types of abstracted, pre-Islamic, shamanic art have, for the most part, disappeared from the Uzbekistan markets. This is a particularly nice example for the collector. If you have any questions at all concerning this lovely antique Central Asian textile fragment, only email Michael Phillips at: phillipsrugs@comcast.net or feel free to call my studio at: (303) 885-7599. Please take a little extra time to view the other fine antique rugs and weavings of merit I have posted exclusively with eBay auction this week and remember to bookmark my eBay seller ID: IMOKUB2 (I am okay, you be too) to your "favorite sellers" list to see my weekly future offerings having this age, beauty, quality, condition, rarity, and collect-ability. NOTICE: ALL of my eBay listings come with an unconditional 100% money back refund guarantee (including ALL s/h/ins. fees) if for ANY reason the winning bidder is unhappy with their purchase from me. GOOD LUCK BIDDING.  STARTS AT JUST $9.99 AND LISTED WITH NO RESERVE PRICE.
