All of the gold suckers are carefully hand-crafted. They are very easy to use. Here is an email that one prospector sent me on 03-10-07 that illustrates this point; and is used with his permission:
"Hey there i just got the chance to try out the hand dredge i got from you on ebay. All i can say is that i feel like an idiot for not having one allready it is a wanderfull tool. I went to a gulch that i have been to before and only gotten small amounts of small gold I had limited time so i picked out one small crevice about 100 feet off the trail picked out bigger materal and put what what was easily hand scooped through screen then sucked out crevice with the hand dredge paned it all out about two pans worth and found more gold than i did all last season with sluice and shovel nice little pickers and pretty flakes" THANKS MIKE(mikessexylady )
Hi. Thank you for visiting one of my auctions. I have been a gold prospector since 1968, and I make a few prospecting tools for other prospectors. The gold sucker has several advantages over other hand dredges on the market. The advantages are:
- The gold sucker is built to custom built to fit you. If you are very tall, very short or in between, your gold sucker will fit you, and still work great. If all prospectors were the same size, one size fits all would be great, but if you are short or tall, one size won't fit at all! Or be easy to use. Some hand dredges use accessory handles, and charge yuo extra for it. With the custom built gold sucker there is no need for an accessory handle.
- In most situations, the gold sucker is the fastest and most efficient hand dredge on the market. When working along the side of a stream or river the gold sucker's simple and efficient design let you quickly clean out cracks and crevices. To do one suction stroke and then empty the material and be ready for another suction stroke literally only takes seconds.
- The vent hole on the gold sucker allows the material to easily fall out of the gold sucker into your container. The vent hole is one of the gold suckers best features. You will quickly learn on any hand dredge that you have to push the material out with the plunger that you will get more plugs and have the material splash all over the place. That is why the original designer of the gold sucker added the vent hole.
- The gold sucker uses an o-ring for its seal. Some hand dredges use pipe insulation, sponges, or tennis balls. Any of these types of seals will carry sand as it imbeddeds itself in the seal, especially sponge and pipe insulation seals. And what it does is end up sanding out the barrel. Sand does not imbed in the o-ring. The o-ring will not wear out quickly like pipe insulation used as a seal on some hand dredges will. The o-ring will last a minimum of 1 year in most cases. But I have had prospectors tell me that they have not changed o-rings in years, and the gold sucker still works great.
- The gold sucker has a right angle handle on the plunger. Most other hand dredges use a Tee handle. If you use your hand dredge a lot, like I use mine, a right angle handle is much more comfortable. Using a hand dredge all day that requires you to hold the Tee handle between your fingers will result in a sore hand. But the gold sucker's right angle handle you grip with your whole hand, and is very comfortable to use.
- In situations where you cannot use the gold sucker in its original configuration, a collection chamber is available. It does not employee any classifying screens. I will leave it to you to decide if a small classifying screen in your hand dredge is going to allow you to collect a usefull amount of material. The collection chamber is designed just as well as any other collection chamber on the market.
- The gold sucker's nozzles use electrical pipe fittings. Some hand dredges use plumbing pipe fittings for their nozzles. And you might wonder, what does this matter? The original designer of the gold sucker put a lot of thought into its design. Electrical pipe fittings have little or no taper on the threads. So when you screw on a nozzle, it does not bind, and is easy to take off again. Plumbing pipe fitting have taper in the threads, and when tightened, they have a tendency to bind. Some hand dredges use bayonet fittings for their nozzles. It only takes a half turn to attach the nozzle. But by the same token, if you are cleaning out a crevice and moving around to get the best angle, it only takes a half turn for the nozzle to come off. Some hand dredges use plain coupling to put on nozzles. You just push them on. This is the worst type of connector for a nozzle. Invariably, sand and grit gets in the coupling, and it becomes very difficult to remove the nozzle.
- The gold sucker's adaptor that the nozzles screw into is a female fititng. You might wonder what this matters. I use to make the gold suckers with the adaptor a male fititng. And the nozzles had female fittings. But the male fitting on the gold sucker proved to be a weak spot if put on the barrel, breaking off sometimes. Either from dropping or from people prying with it. Once broken, the gold sucker was useless. But once I changed the adaptor on the barrel to a female fitting, I never had another gold sucker break.
- The gold sucker is very affordable. And the gold sucker is built with just as much precision and craftsmanship as any other hand dredge on the market. A good hand dredge should not cost you an arm and a leg.
- The gold sucker does not utilize a large reducer fititng at the nozzle end of the barrel. The end of the barrel of the gold sucker is heated and shrank to fit the pipe on the end of the female fitting. The pipe in the female fitting is tapered. What both of these things accomplish is to make it easier for the material inside the barrel of the gold sucker to fall out without getting plugs. If you use just a large reducer at the end, you have a large flat area with a hole in the middle, and this just makes it harder for the material to fall out of the barrel without plugging or having to shake the barrel.
- The gold suckers guarantee. I stand behind my product. If you are not satisfied, I will refund your purchase price and shipping and handling. Some other hand dredge makers say they guarantee their product, but you have to ship it back at your cost, and you are still out the cost of the origianl shipping and handling. And as of this time, 01-30-08, I have built and sold over 1600 hand dredges, and have never had a customer ask for a refund or had a negative feedback about one.
The gold sucker is very easy hand dredge to use. And a hand dredge that many gold prospectors have reported recovering gold with.
Check the feedback of the hand dredge makers, and you will find out which hand dredges work well in the field. If all the hand dredges worked equally well in the field, all the hand dredge makers should have received reports or feedback from gold prospectors about recovering gold with each hand dredge. But some hand dredges makers have not received such reports or feedback. And the reason is that in theory, their hand dredge might work well. But in practice, in the field, they just do not perform well. And the reason is that it becomes a hassle to access the collected material.
The gold sucker and the 2 inch hand dredge made in Maryland are two examples of hand dredges that work well in the field. The gold sucker's quick cycle time, from suctioning up material on one stroke to suctioning up material on the next stroke make it possible to collect a large amount of material in a short amount of time. And the 2 inch hand dredge's large bore make it possible to collect and access the material quickly.
The expensive hand dredge with collection chamber looks good one paper, but in the field it does not perform as well as the 2 hand dredge mentioned above. Nor does it perform as well as the gold sucker. Either of the two above mentioned hand dredge will out perform the hand dredge with the collection chamber in the field. And the reason is that the small size of the nozzle, 1/2 inch, coupled with the fact that to access the collected material you have to open up the collection chamber just make it too slow and too much of a hassle. Also, despite the claims of the expensive hand dredge with the collection chamber, when you have a large diameter barrel, and a small nozzle, it just makes you work harder to suction up material. I have done tests with my 2 inch super sucker. It is very easy to suction up material. But when I but the 1/2 inch nozle on the super sucker, the pull becomes much harder. And the reason is that you are restricting the inlet. The only way to decrease the pull is to loosen the seal, and then you get an easier pull at the expense of suction. The gold sucker collects more material in this situation, with a lot less work for the operator.
Both the 2 inch hand dredge and the gold sucker will also out perform the picker stick. The picker sticks 1/2 inch nozzle coupled with the fact that you have to dump the collected material out of the barrel make it too slow in the field. Despite the fact that it can pump water out of the handle. The 2 inch hand dredge will easily out perform it by virtue of its large nozzle size. And the gold sucker will easily out perform it because of the choice of nozzle sizes, 1, 3/4 and 1/2 inch; and the rapid cycle time.
The ideas discussed above should be kept in mind when reading the feedback and testimonials of the different hand dredge makers. Some hand dredge makers have performed self serving tests and videos; but still have no published reports from gold prospectors recovering gold with their units, and no feedback indicating gold being recoverd. All hand dredges either work or they don't, but not all hand dredges work well in the field. And by reading the feedback and testemonials, you can find out which hand dredges work well in the field, and which ones don't.
In this auction, you are bidding on one gold sucker, a new grizzly gold pan and a new gold miser sluice. The gold sucker can be a custom built gold sucker or a gold sucker mini for using underwater with a mask and snorkel. The Buy It Now price of this combo is less than the starting price of some hand dredges! Plus the gold sucker is the easiest to use of any of the hand dredges on the market. And it works as well or better than other hand dredges. Shown in the top picture is a gold sucker, a grizzly gold pan and a gold miser sluice leaning up against my old rocker box.
I have been a prospector since 1968, a lifetime GPAA member, and the gold sucker is one of my favorite pieces of gold prospecting equipment. The gold sucker comes with 3 nozzles, 1, 3/4 and 1/2 inch. With the assortment of crevicing tips, you can clean out those smaller cracks and crevices. You simply pull up on the plunger with your thumb over the vent hole, when you see the black line on the plunger you move the gold sucker over your container and move your thumb from the vent hole. Then the material falls out of the gold sucker.
The gold sucker mini is used in the same way as a gold sucker, except that it is smaller with an 18 inch barrel and is for use underwater with a mask and snorkle.
Many prospectors have found gold using the gold sucker. One father and his 2 sons recovered an ounce during a weekend. Here is the feedback from this prospector:

Another prospector paid for his gold sucker in 2 hours on the Klamath River.
Here is an email from another satisfied prospector who bought a combo:
Ray, sorry for the delay in giving feedback. I wanted to use your products before responding. I have not used the grizzly pan/sluice yet. But, I did have the opportunity to use the gold sucker hand dredge on a previously-worked crevice that I had labored on for more than 8 hours.
When I had originally worked the crevice, I could never get to the bottom of the crack. Dirt and water would collapse upon my work area faster than I could scoop out the overburden. With the gold sucker and 5 gallon bucket, I easily cleaned out the crack and retrieved more gold in one hour than the 8 hours spent the previous week. I am excited about working similar areas, where I could never quite reach the bottoms of cracks and holes!
You offer a quality product for the money. With over 1000 gold suckers sold at 100% positive feedback, your products will make a lot of people happy, and a few people rich. Thanks.

Once you have cleaned out a crevice, with the grizzly gold pan you can quickly concentrate your material. The grizzly gold pan is one of the most popular items I sell, and for good reason! The grizzly gold pan is hands down the best pan for developing a good concentrate in the field. If you have never used a grizzly gold pan, you are in for a suprise! The grizzly gold pan will process material 5 to 10 times faster than a round pan. Then the gold miser sluice can be used for quick recovery of your gold from your black sand concentrates. The gold miser sluice is a unique pocket sluice that excells in recovery of fine gold. The zero radius at the bottom of each groove traps even the very fine, 100 mesh gold.
The gold sucker comes with an extra o-ring.The only thing that you will need is a can of silicon spray lubricant. Can not ship those. You want to make sure that the spray is oil free and that the spray is compatible with plastics and rubber
Add an original snuffer bottle, either a 2 or a 4 ounce bottle, from my store for $3.00! Or a set for $5.50. No extra shipping or handling charges! Check out my other items!
Good luck on your prospecting, and I hope you find some good color!
