Using the CarveWright Woodworking System is as easy as 1-2-3.
1. You first design your project on the CarveWright Designer Software (included). You can choose images from an existing Library or import images into the software.
2. Next, you upload your Designed Project to a Memory Card that can hold several projects. There is no need to attach your computer to the Machine.
3. After inserting the Memory Card into the Machine a LCD Display guides you thru the rest.
The machine can be used to perform a variety of functions such as routing, cutting, carving and jointing and has a patented Quick Change System that allows the bits to be easily removed and replaced. The Machine will automatically choose the correct bit for your job and measure your work piece.
Out of the Box, Ready to Go
The Craftsman Compucarve CarveWright Woodworking System comes equipped with everything needed to get started. Included with your purchase is one Carving Bit, one Cutting bit, two 1/4 Bit Adapters, Vacuum-Bag, a Bit removal Tool, a CarveWright Memory Card with Programmer, The CarveWright Design Software, and the User s Manual.
The Software
The intuitive and easy to use, PC or Mac compatible Software Package contains simple toolbars that allow you to manipulate your design on a 3-dimensional representation of your work piece. You can add images from the Software s Library or import your own images into the library. From there the images can be dragged and dropped onto the work piece display; you can then combine images, add text, size and re-shape, or adjust the carving depth. You can even draw out your design using 2D drawing capabilities.
Three-dimensional Design Elements
The CarveWright design software includes a library of 3 dimensional elements similar to clip-art. These elements can be dragged and dropped onto the work piece then arranged, mirrored, scaled, rotated and merged together to create an infinite variety of unique carvings.
Surfaces and Textures
With CarveWright design software you can contour the surface of the work piece using domes and arcs. You can also apply a variety of textures to your work which adds to the character of the piece.
2D drawing
The CarveWright design software allows you to draw 2D figures using lines and curves (splines). And like CAD Software, it allows you to apply constraints to those figures.
Text
The CarveWright design software has extensive text capabilities. You can raster text for a bold 3D effect or outline the text using a variety of bits. You can also quickly carve text using a V bit for an engraved look. The design software uses the true type fonts already on your computer, so you can create unique one of a kind signs. (centerline is not included in the basic package)
The Probe
The CarveWright scanning probe opens up the world of 3D scanning to everyone. Now you can reproduce original pieces, repair antique furniture, and even copy trim and moldings with ease. Almost any material can be scanned even soft materials such as clay or wax. Scanning resolution up to .005 inches are possible. Just plug the probe into the CarveWright, set the desired scan area, and watch the CarveWright go to work. Depending on the scan object geometry, a simple wood jig might be required to move the scan object through the machine. The design, plans and discussion for this jig can be found on the website, as well as the Scanning Probe manual. With the included CarveWright Import software you can manipulate the 3D output to meet your needs.
