Clara Porset was one of the leading figures in the Modernist Movement of architecture and design in Mexico. For many years her work has been under valued and nearly forgotten. Now, after the Franz Mayer Museum retrospective early this year, a book as been written in both Spanish and English that records the biographical details of her fascinating life as well as the breath of her design accomplishments. Her work became associated with leading Modern Mexican architects, including Luis Barragan and Mario Pani. Though her furniture designs were created with mass production in mind, she could incorporate historical cultural elements of the past with modern sensibilities. The results were amazing Modern designs expressed primarily in natural materials.
