Item specifics
Item Type: Colonial Currency

CT-238 - PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 - 10 shillings - Connecticut Colony - July 1, 1780 - #1 Highest grade....... Deep ink strike (lighter on the back side), signed twice on front, cut cancel that was lightly sealed..... Extremely rare in any grade - According to PMG, this stunning note stands alone as the Highest grade awarded on the Census. It is also a very rare note, as only one other notes graded from this denomination are the CU 62 that I own and a distant VF 25.... The price is somewhat low but if it holds as the highest grade then look for this price to climb dramatically........................... Some important history on this note - The front of the note shows the seal of the colony with three grape vines and a hand that points to the right on some denominations and to the left on others. The scroll carries the abbreviated motto "QUI TRAN SUST" (sometimes lacking the final N or final T) which means "What is transplanted survives". In the border is: "SIGILLUM : COLON : CONNECTICENSIS", which is the Seal of the Colony of Connecticut. The top shows a Horn Of Plenty in both corners, with beautiful scroll designs at both right and left sides. The back shows winged cherub heads in all four corners of the elaborate woodcut design..... Printed in New London by Timothy Green II with engraved borders and typeset text. (This Green is the first cousin once removed of Timothy Green Jr., who had printed currency for Connecticut until his death on October 3, 1763)................. If you would like to read more about Colonial Currency and get a better understanding regarding the significance of this (and other) notes, click the link below..........Free to ship Priority insured boxed anywhere in the USA (outside the USA - I will split shipping costs with you)...... By the way, I will box this in a medium sized Priority box and well padded. This may seem like over-kill but in 35 years of mail order I have seen it all and I would rather be safe with your treasure and I will Not risk a note being bent....
