The Center for Cuban Studies, which opened its doors to the public in 1972, is a non-profit educational institution located in New York City with a national membership base. It
is dedicated to providing information and activities relating to contemporary Cuba and contributing to a normalization of relations between Cuba and the U.S. In 1999 the Center for Cuban Studies created the Cuban Art Space to collect, exhibit, and sell the art of artists born and living in Cuba. In 1999 the Center for Cuban Studies created the Cuban Art Space to collect, exhibit, and sell the art of artists born and living in Cuba. The Cuban Art Space has an extensive collection of Cuban art in which every piece is well documented. In 1991, the Center for Cuban Studies spearheaded a successful lawsuit against the Treasury Department that legalized the importation and sale of Cuban original art, prints, posters, and photographs.
