If you Win this Auction You will Receive One **** NEW NEVER USED Custom Hand Turned Tactical Firesteel **** One of a Kind!! Made Especially 4 U! *************************************************************** ~~~~~~The Picture that you see is the Actual Picture of What you will Receive ~~~~~ The picture shows it together and the other picture shows the striker apart so you can see that it fits snugly in the end of the firesteel *************************************************************** A little description might be in order... The ferrocerium rod commonly known as the Fire steel was developed by the Swedish Dept., of Defense to be a weatherproof fire starter for it’s troops. When scraped by a sharp piece of steel it will produce a shower of sparks capable of igniting dry tender -- even when the fire steel is wet and will work equally well at any altitude. Can even be used to start charcoal or gas grills!! ----------------------------------------------------------- The Custom hand turned Tactical Fire Steel offered here has a ferrocerium rod 3/8" in diameter and has approx., 4 1/2" exposed lenght for scraping. Overall it is 5/8" in diameter and approximately 9 3/4" in length. There is a lenght of 550 Orange paracord threaded through the handle as a lanyard about an inch up from the rod. The scraper's handle is 3/8" in diameter and approximately 2 3/4" long. It is nested in the end of the firesteel's handle and has a scraping blade of type M2 high speed steel. It will out last the chrome plated strikers you see elsewhere and makes a satisfying SCRAUCH!!!!! while filling the area around with globs of molten metal sparks! This baby will light a self substaining fire on a piece of newspaper, or paper towel with just one stroke The handles of the firesteel and striker have been turned on my lathe from Black Acetal plastic and feature grooves around the circumference 1/16" wide and approximately .040" deep for a secure grip. Firesteels of this size are generally rated for well over 10,000 strikes, and given the ferocity of the rain of sparks this bad boy throws, you will probably never need to buy another (Unless you want another for the camper, or the other car or the boat, or a gift.... Buy all you want. I'll make more!) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: A piece of survival gear, no matter how good, will only function well if you know how to use it when you need it, so may I suggest you practice making fire with your new fire steel before you need it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- First, start small.... Get a cotton ball, rub a small amount of petroleum jelly into it then pull it apart a bit to make it bigger. Place it outside on a fireproof surface (Safety First!!!!) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- …….. Hold the fire steel by the handle in your left hand with its end near the cotton ball (If you are right handed, use opposite hands if you are left handed) ……..Hold the square striker blade with one corner at about a 30 degree angle to the top surface of the fire steel rod with your other hand, Then scrape toward the bottom of the rod fast and hard! You should generate a shower of big bright hot sparks and the cotton ball should burst into flame and burn 20 seconds to well over a minute depending on how much petroleum jelly you used. You may not get many sparks the first few times (it does take a little practice) but, as you gain experience you will find yourself making fire with nearly every strike! Cotton balls and petrolium jelly are cheap and pack small, but this firesteel will also ignite larger, less flamable kindling... Try it on dry grass, leaves, cloth.... things you might have to light in a real emergency, if only so you'll know you can! **************************************************** Oh, YES ONE MORE THING..... This boy throws out a lot of light when you strike it! It would make a great signal for attracting aid in the dark. And it will light and throw showers of BIG sparks even when it is soaking wet! **************************************************** **Please always use caution and be safe at all times! ** **************************************************** Thanks for looking and remember the Boy Scout motto...
