1900 Art Nouveau Cast Brass MUSICAL INKWELL 2 Tunes
Beautifully cast in brass and
brushed with silver paint this Art Nouveau musical inkwell is in
excellent useable condition and the music box plays two tunes with
clear & resounding notes due to the wooden plate closing the bottom
and four bead feet. The piece measures 11" wide x 7.25" deep x 3.5"
high. Inside the lip of the inkwell are Roman numerals "V III"; a
printed label underneath says "2 Airs" with hand-written "1. La
Mascotte vala // 2. Cor Amore polka". The female figure appears to be
a water nymph on huge acanthus leaves, the inkwell is a large flower
bud held in her arms. The top of the bud opens to reveal 1.5" wide and
1.25" deep removable well where the ink goes, when the lid is opened
the music box plays, when shut the lid closes very slowly and turns
off the music. The shapes and forms of the leaves around the figure
will hold a pen and accessories in place. An Art Nouveau vision!
