BUMPER STICKER * NEW“Laissez les bon temps rouler!”is French for“Let the good times roll!”In 1755, the British drove the French out of their colony in what is now Maritime Canada. This colony was called Acadia, or l’Acadie in French. The Cajuns are the descendants of Acadian exiles and mainly live in southern Louisiana, west of New Orleans. The region where they settled is now officially referred to as the Acadiana region of Louisiana. Cajun music and cuisine have had a profound influence on the state's culture. The 1847 epic poem "Evangeline, A Tale of Acadie" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow is a romanticized account of the 1755 Deportation and its aftermath. The poem became an American classic, and also contributed to a rebirth of Acadian identity in both Louisiana and Maritime Canada. The Cajun flag was designed by Dr. Thomas Arceneaux of University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The flag was adopted by Louisiana Legislature in 1974 as the official flag of the Acadiana region.
