Why do I need an essay tutor for the FYLSX?

For many, learning the law on the baby bar exam is not a problem. Their main difficulty in doing well on the exam lies in improving exam-taking skills, including bar exam essay writing. Fortunately, for such baby bar examinees, bar exam essay writing is a skill, which can be improved. For many, simply writing practice essay after practice essay without critical evaluation, however, rarely generates sufficient progress in their overall essay quality. I liken this method of bar exam essay practice to someone with a bad golf swing. If your golf swing is deficient, simply repeating that same bad swing over and over, without outside evaluation and assistance, does not generally create any improvement. Typically, it only reinforces bad habits and techniques. The same can be said of baby bar exam essay writing.

What does the tutor service provide?

My essay tutor service includes an initial Evaluation Questionnaire, which allows me to understand your individual essay exam writing experience. The service will provide you the invaluable experience of sitting down and writing baby bar exam essays under exam-like conditions and receiving constructive, personalized feedback to improve your performance. Placing yourself under the rigors of exam-like conditions as often as possible is a key study technique cited by many successful bar examinees. Additionally, you will receive a customized critique of your answer along with an evaluation, which includes constructive feedback with specific steps you can take to improve your essay performance. I will also be glad to answer any exam related questions, especially questions regarding study strategy and exam-taking. This is unlimited q & a in addition to the specifics of the tutor service.  

Logistics & Service Procedure:

• After purchase, I will provide you via email an Essay Evaluation Questionnaire for you to complete and return via email (the Questionnaire is a fillable pdf form).
• After I evaluate your Questionnaire, I will provide you SIX baby bar exam essay questions (2 from each baby bar subject) with instructions.
• You will submit each essay answer written under exam conditions via email by a designated due date or an otherwise agreed upon due date.
• Once you submit each essay answer, I will: a) evaluate and b) critique your written essay answer. The written evaluation will consider essay organization, issue identification, statement of the law, and issue analysis and provide suggestions for improvement. You will also receive a commented, critiqued version of your answer. I will send you the evaluation and critique of each essay answer within 48 hours of receipt.  
• Unlimited study strategy and exam taking Q & A. In addition to the essays, I will answer any exam related questions, including study strategy and exam taking inquiries.

Please note the following requirements:

• The complete process is done via email. Please ensure you will have email access and an email account capable of sending and receiving email attachments.
• You may submit your essay answer in the body of an email, as a Word document, or as any Word-compatible document (e.g., OpenOffice, WordPerfect, text file). All documents sent to you will be in pdf format. You will need the latest version of the free Adobe Reader to view essay evaluations, critiques, and sample answers.
• To ensure quality feedback and critical evaluation, I will only guarantee the 48 hour response for an essay answer submitted by the due date. For answers submitted after the due date, I will use my best efforts to provide your critique and evaluation within 48 hours. Additionally, for multiple answer submissions within the same 48 hour time period, the 48 hour period for each additional answer does not begin until the previous essay's 48 hour period is over.

Qualifications

For those interested, I am an attorney, and I passed both the New York and California Bar Exams on the first attempt. I graduated from a top 20 law school with honors and an Ivy League undergraduate university. I served as managing editor of my law school's journal and received several awards and prizes for academic achievement. I have tutored bar examinees in California, New York, Florida, and a number of other states.
