Basically, the wood is burned and the soot that the fire produces is scraped down and mixed with water,tiny bit of honey, wood tar,sulphate of copper and tanning acid. The last two ingredients serve as binding and water resistance agents. Surely you can buy a regular stationery ink, but for best results it is very recommended to use ink specially produced for quill writing.
