 This is a beautiful commemorative coin minted with a piece of the Campo del Cielo meteorite. Campo del Cielo was found in Argentina, in Chaco, and Santiago del Estero provinces. It was first described by Spanish explorers in 1576. Since that time, many thousands of masses have been found in what is today known as the largest meteorite strewnfield on Earth! Estimated total known weight is well over 5000 metric tons! Imagine the fireball and destruction that would be caused by this meteorite if it were to fall today! The largest known piece weighs 35 tons.  Campo del Cielo is spanish for "heavens field", in reference to the iron from the sky which fell from the heavens.

This coin measures 50 mm in diameter, and is # 48 of a series of 1000 pieces. This piece is a very low number, and should fetch a higher price. The cube in the photo measures 1 cm.
