Candlesticks (Collecting For Tomorrow series) by Deborah Stratton. Hardcover book with pictorial boards (no dust jacket) published by BPC 1976, 111 pages with colour and black and white photographs throughout. Many people would like to collect antiques but are put off by the prices. Candlesticks is one title in a series designed to help you begin collecting beautiful but inexpensive objects. Candlesticks make fascinating collections in themselves - and they can be used for their original purpose. Candlelight can lend to any room a soft radiance, conjuring up elegant Georgian drawing-rooms, cosy Victorian parlors, or the stylized modernism of the 1930s. In this book both American and European candlesticks are covered in depth; there are candlesticks in Victorian silver, and Venetian glass, in wood, iron, brass, and Wedgwood; there are candlesticks for special use like the seven-branched Menorah, sconces and church candlesticks, and many more. The 19th and early 20th century provide most of the examples but early wooden and iron candlesticks with their candleholders are included in order to place the candlestick as a means of lighting in its historical context. The Collecting for Tomorrow series is specially devised for the beginner, as well as for the experienced collector who is turning more and more to the cornucopia of modestly priced and readily available items of the 19th and early 20th centuries. This book is in very good condition. The cover is in very good condition. There is some very minor wear to the edges and corners. There is some minor shelf wear and there is some slight yellowing.
