| | Album notes | Digitally remastered by Wally Traugott. Although she only had one Top 40 hit, 1975's gorgeous "Lovin' You," Minnie Riperton was one of the most distinctive and exceptional singers of the '70s. This anthology, covering the solo albums Riperton recorded in the '70s as a protege of Stevie Wonder, collects most of her finest material. While most of Riperton's singles were lushly romantic ballads in the "Lovin' You" mold, she had a remarkably varied vocal and stylistic range-she had been the singer in the pioneering psychedelic soul act the Rotary Connection, after all-and other tracks here include the funkier "Can You Feel What I'm Saying" and the sassy "Young Willing and Able." Other highlights include sublime interpretations of Wonder's "Perfect Angel" and Joni Mitchell's "Woman of Heart and Mind." Riperton's early death, in 1979 at the age of 31, was one of the '70s' most tragic musical losses.
