Hi,
Up for auction is one very OLD Gold Medal Cardboard "tin".
On the front it says:
Gold Medal New Process Rolled Oats Northern Illinois Cereal Co. Lockport Illinois in the center oval are the initials: NIC (the back says the same...there is a smudge on the D of Gold - where the D is rubbed away)
Down one side it says:
Gold Medal New Process OATS are manyufactured by a secret precess and partially steam cooked. They are flaked from the choicest and largest berries of the finest oats grown and are toasted over a live coke (yes it says coke) fire to bring out the true flavor or the oats; the way oats were originally prepared in Scotland, and no better way has been discovered.
And down the other side it says:
Directions for cooking Stir slowly one cup of GOLD MEDAL New Process Oats into 1 1/2 cups of vigorously boiling water, that has been salted to taste. Continue to boil rapidly over direct heat from three to five minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent burning. If a double boiler is used, they can be cooked longer according to preference. NET WEIGHT 1 LB.
This nice piece of Americana advertising measures about 7 1/2" high including the lid and the opening measures about 4 1/8" across.
