Presented here for consideration is a PRISTINE Carlton Ware Lidded Ginger Jar with its lid. It is hand decorated with the EXTREMLEY rare “Garden Of Tranquillity” pattern hand painted over a deep Rouge ground.

This is the only example I have ever seen in this pattern. On the front of the vase is an Oriental Figure holding and umbrella in one hand while holding a flower in the other. In the background is a large tree with magnificent flowers and a ornamental bridge. On the back is a scene of a High Ranking Male reclining under a tree with a lady attending to his every whim (is't that what you love to see).

This pattern just works so very VERY well against the deep gloss of the lustre red ground. The inside of the jar is finished in an awesome mother of pearl lustre glaze. It has a red stamped makers mark of the style that I believe was in use in the early 1960’s. It has an original factory applied paper label with the pattern number 4947 and the shape number 311/6.

  • Dimensions

It strides in at 17.5 cm (7”) tall to the very tip of the golden finial on the top of the lid. It has a diameter of 1o cm (4”) across the shoulders at its broadest.

  • Condition

It is in AS NEW condition; there are no chips, cracks, stains or repairs and NO crazing. There is NO wear to the rich red ground nor is there any wear to the ANY of the gilding or the hand applied acrylic paint.

This piece is almost exactly the same as it was when it came out of the factory nigh on 50 years ago. It has obviously only ever know the sheltered existence of a cabinet dweller.

This is a very RARE pattern – this is the first time I have ever had this pattern and I cannot remember ever seeing it before.
