Carved wood Santa with Tri colored Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Up for auction this week is my carved Santa.

This Santa has been hand carved and hand painted by me, Cheryl Schley.

I carved this Santa in the full round (carved on all sides).

Santa stands about 12 inches tall and about 3 inches round. He is holding
his sweet little buddy, The Tri Colored Cavalier King Charles puppy.

Santa was carved from Basswood collected from a managed forest. After carving Santa I then paint him with two coats of artist paints. After drying, he is given a coat of puritan pine wood stain. Santa is then given highlights and shadows with artist chalks. The final step is three coats of a clear matte finish spray. After two days of drying time, Santa is then offered to you.

Santa has been hand carved and hand painted by me, cheryl Schley. I use no patterns. I just pick up a piece of wood and start carving. Santa emerges from the wood.
I learned to carve as a small child while sitting on my Grandpa's lap in an old rocking chair on a front porch in Kentucky. Grandpa would whittle with his old knife and a small piece of wood, an I with my butter knife and a bar of Grandma's home made soap.
