You get these 4 Cello bass bars in this auction. 

Rare old wood, tight grain.  These Cello bass bars are cut exactly parallel to the straight grain lines and perfectly quartered.  High grade bass bars, very stiff and light.  Professional Grade.

You can see the grain lines running vertically in the picture, if you cannot see the grain lines it means that they are very tight, 30 to 40 lines per inch.

These bass bars came from a tree that was standing dead for almost 60 years.   It died th the 1940's.   So, it has been dry for 50 plus years.  (Yes, the air is on average very dry where these trees grew).   These trees are weathered and gray like an old fence post.   MC was about 7% to 12% all that time (the first 5 years of being dead it is still losing water).   I sliced this dry log last year.   Old growth.  This tree was 50 years old when Stradivari was making violins.   This log was a straight splitter, like all the logs I cut.   Cut from a split bolt.   Bars are about 28" long.

I have never experienced a wood of this caliber. The Englemann Spruce that I recieved from Simeon was incredible. I made one violin and one A Model mandolin using this wood and both sold immediately.   Against a Frailey mandolin, the analyzer said it was as good or better, and I can hear it!   A music teacher friend of mine who has played mandolin for 45 years, including on the Grande Ole Opry, and he told me that he would never look for a mandolin with a better sound. (than the A model from Simeon's wood).
