Very Rare!

This was recently acquired by our company from a collector who assembled one of the finest collections of Irish coins and artifacts. The collection of artifacts had at its core many pieces from the Rev Buick who was a minister who collected many items from Ireland, especially in the north of the country. He was also active in the UK. This Irish-American collector even had the only known/only struck set of Irish Free State coinage as only the Italian artist actually had the coins made up...there was a design competition between artists from the UK, America & Italy. The entire collection was offered for permanent exhibition in the Cork Museum in Cork City and they weren't interested? What were they thinking?

This prominent collector was severely discouraged so he started to trade off the entire collection and broke up the only set of 1928 Irish Free State coinage which was unique and once owned by King Farouk of Egypt, an avid collector of coins and other collectibles.

This is one of his last few pieces and acquired in recent years.

He is of the opinion that the beads came from the same general location, but not from the same grave. All the beads were located by metal detectors in northern Ireland so legal to export and own vs the Republic of Ireland which has strict laws against exporting any artifacts. The UK has far more treasure trove and artifacts so their laws are more relaxed.

Value? Some of the crosses and jewelry from the collection that were dug by the Rev Buick went on eBay from $1k for a BA ring w/2 glass paste eyes to several thousands for Medieval crosses w/some gilt remaining.

Guaranteed to be ancient and from the British Isles with a 7-day inspection period.

Properly strung this is a very rare & unusual gift for someone Irish or an awesome addition to your collection

This would make a unique gift for the collector in your life...or a wonderful addition to your personal collection!

Thanks for looking! SP

For your interest ...

Three of the best areas to collect are ancient iron arrow/spearheads, fibulas & ancient rings. The reasons for this include that there are sufficient numbers being found in Europe to help keep the prices reasonable. Of course, this could change in a day if certain European countries were to enforce their laws on exporting antiquities. For the time being, they mostly ignore diggers & collectors who use metal detectors to look for buried treasure. This is in direct contrast to the rarer items being found such as quality gold jewelry, museum quality weapons, statues and other truly significant antiquities or Medieval material. Illegally exported/imported museum quality truly rare material can be, and is being seized. After all, no one has the right to rob a nation of any significant pieces of their heritage.

For now, collectors can have a ball with ancient/Medieval small weapons, fibulas and rings. This is an especially good place to start for new collectors. It will allow them to gain experience for a small investment per item. This is important because there are countless unscrupulous importers, diggers, sellers & collectors that prey on the innocent...meaning new collectors.

Also, with these great collectibles it allows buyers to compare prices to other items more or less comparable to what they want to bid on. Frankly, if you pay a little “too much” to get what you want, you didn’t overpay...you got something that pleases you. And that is what collecting is all about. Also, quality doesn’t cost, it pays. If you want to make money on your investments, switch to rare/semi-rare US coins which are in the early stages of a bull market and being propelled by a BULL MARKET in gold. {See certifiedcoins.com for more info on this fascinating and potentially profitable area of collecting called numismatics, and be sure to check our eBay auctions.}

And part of the fun is to buy these relatively inexpensive items and research them yourselves. Imagine what these things would cost if professional archeologists did the work? Even worse, they must have official permission to dig, and the host country gets their choice of what is found, and in many cases they get to keep everything that is discovered. That would mean the end of inexpensive ancient material. It may come to that, but for today enjoy yourselves.

Bon Chance,
Ed Lee

    1) You either must pay for insurance, just as you pay for shipping and handling or accept the fact that items eBay sellers ship sometimes do NOT arrive, especially during the holiday season.

    2) Or you must accept the loss with no recourse to negative feed back or any attempt to cancel payment because if you pay, we ship....always, just as Ed Lee has been doing since 1958.

    3) Company president, Ed Lee has sold & delivered several hundred million dollars in collectibles over the years, mostly rare coins and via insured delivery. Why? To insure the material shipped gets to the customer.

    4) If you like an item well enough to place a winning bid you ought to insure delivery by purchasing insurance on it. Otherwise, we are NOT responsible & any complaints must be directed at the delivery service, not to us.

    5) eBay is a very small but rapidly growing part of our business we rarely get complaints as our feedback clearly demonstrates, but the complaints typically are about failed delivery with no insurance.

    6) When we buy from other eBay sellers we must adhere to their terms & conditions so these policies apply to us as well as to all bidders on eBay. Again, your failure to buy insurance at your cost cancels you right to post negative feedback and any comments & complaints are to be directed at the delivery service, not us. Questions should be sent to us by email or phone at 800-835-6000 before you bid , not after.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
ATTN: ALL NON-US BIDDERS: We will no longer accept bids from anyone residing outside the US for non-antique items unless they want delivery inside the US. The reason for this is that FedEx just stuck us with more than $600 in customs duties for coins less than 100 years of age instead of requiring the customer to pay duties in his country. Items 100 or more years of age are widely considered to be antiques and free of customs duties. With our tiny markups and reserves, we cannot possibly pay customs for our non-US customers. We regret this, but any reasonable person will understand.

If you ignore this notice, you agree to take delivery inside the United States (unless you are willing to pay customs duties) and give up your right to post negative feedback when we refuse to deliver outside the US.

Also, we reserve the right to cancel any bid received from people with negative feed back. Furthermore, we must reinforce that shipping insurance is optional but not covered by us. If you are worried about your package getting lost or damaged in the mail please get the shipping insurance otherwise you forfeit any right to leave negative feedback if your item is lost in the mail or arrives damaged and we cannot be held responsible.
