These two old papers are in fragile condition and you can see some splits and tears but these are the real deal. This goes right to the first weeks of Open City. An L.A. weekly undergound newspaper that would raise Bukowski to an entirely new level of fame by the time it ended publication nearly two years later with issue #92. Much of what Bukowski packed into his weekly column has never been reprinted. Some is easy to see why but other is funny, solid fine work. I obtained this directly from John Bryan himself. These two issues stayed with him at his Brosnan home and work space here in San Francisco until he was evicted for starting up a new paper to protest the Bush war. These papers are key. In 1967 Black Sparrow Press published 111 copies of 2 POEMS and 125 copies of THE CURTAINS ARE WAVING. Meanwhile John Bryan was printing 5,000 of each issue, every week. Later many more and spreading them all over L.A. It opened many doors and took our most loved drunk up to a whole new level. As I say these are fragile but every Bukowski collection needs at least a few. Both issues are complete.
