 Hand Carved Wood Art Sculpture from Italy

 

This beautiful little girl holds a basket of flowers in one arm, and is  feeding a little dog with the other. It is one of the beautiful wood sculptures that was expertly hand carved in maple wood by the late artist Giorgio De Donà. 

The characteristical shiny appearance of this particular wood gives the sculpture a soft and clean look, and the details of the carving are simply amazing.

The sculpture measures 9 inches tall and 4 inches wide, and weighs 300 grams (approx 0.7 pounds)

The artist

Giorgio De Donà was an artist who dedicated his life in the research of his own expressive dimension.  The inspiration he took from wood carving came from his own personal natural environment, the woods of the mountains of the Cadore region in the Dolomites of the Italian Alps. Wood, he used to say, is an anonymous material for those who cannot interpret it.

Giorgio De Donà  was able to understand the  soul of wood, and the essence of the message inside it.

The products that he was able to create with wood, are the clear expression of this message.

His works are appreciated not only at a local and regional level, but also at European level thanks to the frequent that the artist has with Germany and the northern countries.
