This beautiful sculpture of Christ on the Cross is amazing in its details. The body is made in walnut wood, which is a very hard wood to carve, and the expression on the face is truly impressive.

Also the details of each muscle is visible, and perfectly in proportion.

The cross is made in cembro pinewood.

The sculpture is 8 1/4 inches (21 cm)  wide and 16 1/4 inches (41 cm) tall,   and weighs around 500 grams.

You can easily hang it to the wall thanks to the little metal hook it has attached at the back.

The artist

Giorgio De Donà was an artist who dedicated his life in the research of his own expressive dimension.  The inspiration he took from wood carving came from his own personal natural environment, the woods of the mountains of the Cadore region in the Dolomites of the Italian Alps. Wood, he used to say, is an anonymous material for those who cannot interpret it.

Giorgio De Donà  was able to understand the  soul of wood, and the essence of the message inside it.

The products that he was able to create with wood, are the clear expression of this message.

His works are appreciated not only at a local and regional level, but also at European level thanks to the frequent that the artist has with Germany and the northern countries.
