This auction is for a pair of Sai. These Sai are 23 inches long and 5 1/2 inches wide across the guards. They have been given a brilliant chrome finish and the hilt is wrapped in black leatherette for a comfortable grip. The "blade" of these Sai is 14 inches long and VERY pointy. The Sai have been popularized in Popular Media, mostly as an offensive weapon. It has been wielded by such characters as Elektra, Neo in the Matrix Reloaded, Gabriella in Xena: Warrior Princess, as well as by many others. But its history cannot be clearly seen through these productions. Sister weapon to the Japanese Jitte, the Sai has been used by keepers of the law to great effect. This solid, unsharpened, blunt weapon has uses both as an offensive and defensive weapon: a sword can be trapped between the prongs, and once the sword is caught, the sword can be broken or an opponent dissarmed. The opponent can be pinned by the sai. The knuckle (on the end of the grip) can be used for striking. And as a thrown weapon, the sai is heavy enough to punch through armor. This weapon is still taught in the curriculum of several Japanese Jujutsu and Koryu schools. The appliques in the center of each side of the Sai (which resemble gems) are not terribly well attached and they will come loose as the Sai are used. A bit of glue will quickly fix this problem. This pair of Sai is new, with no problems.
