This reproduction of a ladies camp or day dress of the mid 1800’s is constructed from period patterns with period methods using both machine and hand stitching. The long seams have been machine stitched and non-visible areas are machine stitched but all top stitching is hand done as well as the pleats of the skirt are hand set. There are no zippers or elastic used in the construction of this gown. The only place that we cheated was on the dreaded button holes. We have found that hand made button holes don’t stand the wear and tear like a machine made button hole so we sacrifice a little there for durability in wear.
The gown is constructed out of a light weight 100% cotton in a cream and sage paisley print and lined with cotton broadcloth. The Zouave jacket is made from a synthetic moleskin fabric and trimmed with a cotton cord woven gimp. The Medici belt is made of the same moleskin.
For those of you who feel uncomfortable with boned gowns you are in luck. The Garibaldi style of this bodice is cut loose so no boning is necessary. The skirt has a grosgrain ribbon waistband with hand set Cartridge Pleats and it is attached to the inside of the bodice typical of the period. The bodice has hook and eye closure at the front and the cuffs of the full sleeves are buttoned with reproduction buttons. The cream broadcloth collar is basted to the neckline and easily removed for washing.
The true measurements of the outside of the dress are bust 55 inches, waist 36 1/2 inches, and the under arm to bottom of the sleeve is 20 ½ inches. The drop at the center front of the skirt is 45 ½ inches and the circumference of skirt is 182 ½ inches. The measurements of the jacket are, bust 50 inches and length from the bottom neck edge to the bottom of the back edge is 18 inches. The measurement of the belt is 40 inches. When determining if this dress will fit be sure to allow for your underpinnings and easement.
All of our gowns come to you with a finished bottom edge ready for the final hem. While we will hem, we suggest that you hem the gown once it arrives so that you have the perfect length.

We gladly accept returns on any clean, unworn items with tags as long as the entire ensemble is received. If you return an ensemble and we find that it is missing pieces no refund will be issued. All regular purchases are subject to a 25% resocking fee and all custom orders are subject to a 50% restocking fee.
We charge a packing fee for each sale that includes a NEW box and any necessary packing materials. Some of our costumes are quite large and heavy so if you have any questions regarding our shipping costs, e-mail us and we will be happy to give you an exact breakdown. We will ship USPS, UPS or FEDEX. If you choose USPS we add insurance to the item at no additional cost to you.
We welcome off-shore orders, but please contact us for shipping fees. While we appreciate off-shore orders we will not under any circumstances falsify information on customs documents.
