This is a civil war era 3 inch tall brass bell which was normally used by cavalry, tied to their group of horses, so they could find them and/or here them if they ran off at night. These are commonly dug in cavalry camps. The Union issue ones usually have a eagle on them in 3 places. This one is plain and is possibly confederate used. This one has a field repaired center clanger. A valuable tool for men depending on their horses daily. Thanks
