It is my privilege to present for consideration a MASSIVE Clarice Cliff Bizarre Viscaria Lotus shaped Vase / Jug hand painted over a honey glaze ground. Clarice cliff designed the Viscaria pattern in 1934.

I should point out that I have often seen this shape referred to as a Lotus Jug, but as there is no spout I believe it is a handled Vase.

It is clearly stamped to the base of the vase with the black stamped Bizarre maker’s mark of the style that was in use from 1929 until 1936. We have a production window for this piece between 1934 and 1936.

  • Dimensions

This LARGE & PRESTIGOUS vase stride in a proud at 29 cm (11.5”) tall and it measures 20 cm (8”) across the top including the handle. This is a HUGE vase – it really makes a statement.

 

  • Condition

It is in EXCELLENT condition; with no chips, cracks, stains or repairs and NO crazing. There is just a HINT of wear to the paint work on the very edge of the rim – I am not exaggerating when I say just a HINT of wear either – it really is nothing.

This is almost exactly as it was when it came out of the factory nigh on 75 years ago. This magnificent piece has obviously only ever known the sheltered life of a cabinet dweller.

It is very hard to get hand painted Bizarre items in this condition, in most cases the paint work is over glaze so if they have had any use the paintwork is generally scratched or worn. Don’t miss out on this monumental vase from the undisputed doyen of the English Art Deco movement.
