About this wood:

Claro Walnut (Juglans spp. – grafted) "Claro" is a Spanish word meaning clear or bright, and the common name "claro walnut" is usually used to refer to the wood cut from the lower bole (stump) of orchard walnut trees, especially on the West coast of the US. These trees are a mixture of species, created by grafting an English walnut (Juglans regia) scion to a rootstock of one of our native walnut species -- either black walnut (Juglans nigra) or California walnut (Juglans hindsii). The wood near the graft tends to be variegated in color, with beautiful marble-like, dark brown and tan swirls in the figure. It is a favorite wood for making gunstocks. There is some confusion about the term "claro", since the lumber trade sometimes uses it to describe the wood of ordinary California walnut, which is more like black walnut, rather than the marbled variety cut from orchard trees. Claro walnut has working properties similar to black walnut. It works well with hand and power tools, has good strength and bending properties, and takes finishes well. It is used mainly for high-quality furniture and gunstocks.

Our philosophy of shipping is that it exists solely for the seller to send an item safely, quickly, and as inexpensively as possible. We ship every business day. We do not charge handling fees in most circumstances and we do not create inflated shipping charges for our profit. We will work to find you the best shipping option depending on your needs. We are also willing to combine shipping on multiple items. Please indicate you would like combined shipping options if you are bidding on more than one item. If you are purchasing buy it now items, buy them but do not pay for them. We will send you a combined invoice with your shipping costs.

International buyers are responsible for all broker and duty fees. In many cases, insurance is not available or is very expensive on international shipments. Tracking items is difficult and shipping times are generally much longer. If an international shipment is lost, the buyer assumes responsibility. We will try to help you locate it but will not assume any responsibility for replacing it or providing a refund.

We include detail in our descriptions and pictures, including wear and defects, to give a bidder an honest picture. However, if you are unhappy with your purchase please contact us. The buyer needs to contact us within three days of receiving an item to initiate this process. We are not responsible for wood items that have not been properly cared for after shipment.

We operate our own business making custom fishing rods, wood turnings, and selling highly figured and exotic wood. We treat our customers as fellow woodworkers. We only sell what we would buy for ourselves. We service you the way we want to be serviced.

Your questions about an item, the purchase process, and shipping are important. Please use the ‘ask seller a question’ feature in the auction to contact us.
