Classic Spartan/Greek Trooper War Armor & Spear set 7 This is a set that clearly recalls the classic era of the Greeks, specifically that of the war-like Spartan people: In 480 BC King Leonites of Sparta and a small band of his men penned up a Persian army numbered at a million men in the pass at Thermopylae for three days, in what has to be the most famous ‘last stand in history. As seen in the recent movie ‘300, named for the number of Spartans who held the pass and died doing so, they were great heroes, and well worthy of the immortality they bought at the price of their lives. This set includes a well made, Corinthian full-sized helmet, a style of helmet that was among the most popular helms during the Archiac and early Classical periods because it was less expensive to manufacture and did not obstruct the wearer's critical senses of vision and hearing. Numerous examples of Corinthian helmets have been excavated and has been depicted on more sculpture than any other helmet. It seems that the Greeks romantically associated it with glory and the past. The Romans also revered it, placing it on their copies of the Greek originals to sculptures of their own. This is a well made, full size helmet in 18ga steel that fits a normal sized head correctly, which is to say close to the head. The helm measures about eight inches from ear to ear and nine inches front to back and will fit a head size of about 23-24 inches with light padding. There is no padding with this helmet though lightweight arming caps can also be purchased through us. Greek or Roman muscle cuirass (also called Musculata) is not only one of the most recognizable armor designs in the world, it is also one of the earliest forms of armor, dating back in its Greek form to the sixth century BC or even earlier. There is evidence that early in the history of this form of armour (510-260 BC) , the muscle cuirass was apparently worn by many rank-and-file soldiers, but by later Roman times its use appears to have been restricted to senior officers of the rank of Tribune or above. The Musclata or 'muscle' cuirass style armor we are offering here is made of 18 ga mild steel. The edges are rolled, it is well polished and fully strapped. The idealized muscle formations are well sculpted and hand hammered. The size is fairly forgiving due to the adjustable shoulder straps. Runs fine on a 42-48" chest. It comes with a beautiful spear, made with a broad leaf shaped spear blade. This is also a classic design seen throughout history. Both spear blade and pointed end cap are made of polished steel. The pale wood shaft with a burnt wood design is made in two pieces that can unscrew at the center, allows ease in shipping and storage. This spear measures a full 70" in total length. The blade has a pointed tip and is not recommended for combat use or sword play. As with any weapon, the suitability or unsuitability for any use is the responsibility of the user. No use whatsoever is endorsed. These items are similar to the items used in the movie '300', but are not from the movie, they are historical reproductions. These items are new, no problems.
