- Rare & historic film transferred to DVD format and preserved for posterity - DVD menus and search capabilities - Over 8 Hours Running Time
Brief Synopsis of DVD: This 9 DVD Singing Cowboys Box Set is a cornucopia of good old country tunes sung out on the range. With the likes of Roy Rogers and Gene Autry, this is a star studded collection. But there are also other western singing stars whose songs are still well worth revisiting. One cowgirl is featured in the set: the beautiful Dorothy Page in Singing Cowgirl (1939). In the 30s and 40s, singing cowboys were all the rage to the point where country music stars were enticed to cross over to the big screen. Such was the case with the wonderful musician Tex Ritter, who is included in this set. The 9 DVD Singing Cowboys Box Set is a country tune filled collection of great wild west fun and entertainment.

Brief Synopsis of DVD: Nothing like having your father’s body delivered in the mail to your wedding! The Fighting Deputy is a musical western that blends action, singing, romance, and comedy to make for a wild ride in the old west. Fred Scott, former opera singer, provides the crooning; the classic beauty Phoebe Logan provides the love; and comic relief staple Al “Fuzzy” St. John provides the laughs. But for the action, the evil Scar Adams (Charles King) is wreaking havoc. Scott is the deputy, his father the sheriff, and when dad is murdered it becomes time for Scott to become The Fighting Deputy. This film is loaded with good times and is not to be missed. Film #1: The Fighting Deputy Production Date: 1937 Running Time: 48 minutes Brief Description: Director: Sam Newfield. Starring: Fred Scott, Phoebe Logan, Al St. John, Marjorie Beebe, Charles King, Frank LaRue, Eddie Holden, Lafe McKee, Jack C. Smith, Jack Evans, James Sheridan, White King

Brief Synopsis of DVD: Singing cowboy sensation Tex Ritter is winsome and strapping as ever in Gangsters of the Frontier. Since the film was made in 1944, it was intended to function as a World War II morale booster as well as an Old West adventure. This provides all sorts of nifty parallels to watch out for: like women being deputized in the spirit of women contributing to the war effort, as well as Ritter’s inspirational speeches about freedom. Gangsters of the Frontier has a lot going for it: a great cast, beautiful songs, and political underpinnings. But additionally, it doesn’t fail as a explosive shoot ‘em up good time. Film #1: Gangsters of the Frontier Production Date: 1944 Running Time: 56 minutes Brief Description: Director: Elmer Clifton. Starring: Tex Ritter, Dave O’Brien, Guy Wilkerson, Patti McCarty, Harry Harvey, Betty Miles, I. Stanford Jolley, Charles King, Clarke Stevens

Brief Synopsis of DVD: Roy Rogers was known as The King of the Cowboys for a reason: his films always delighted audiences around the country. In Nevada City, Rogers teams up once again with the underrated George “Gabby” Hayes, this time as stagecoach drivers. Their boss doesn’t get along with the railroad company tycoon who competes with him, and Roy and Gabby try to make the men come together peaceably. This flies back in their faces, further igniting the rivalry. When vicious raids start terrorizing both the stagecoach and railway businesses, the two businessmen put aside their differences and get the help of Rogers and Gabby to fight the outlaws ruining their business. Roy Rogers was always a thinking man’s cowboy, and his clever tact is ever employed to perfection in Nevada City. Title #1: Nevada City Production Date: 1941 Running Time: 53 minutes Brief Description: Director: Joseph Kane. Starring: Roy Rogers, George “Gabby” Hayes, Sally Payne, George Cleveland, Billy Lee

Brief Synopsis of DVD: A vaudeville western foot stomping good time, Oh, Susanna! places singing cowboy phenom Gene Autry on center stage. When Autry unwittingly boards a train with a vicious outlaw, the criminal steals his clothes and throws him from the locomotive! Coming to, Autry realizes that he is dressed like a drifter, has no money, and no way prove he’s the famous Gene Autry. Fortunately, he still has his sonorous singing voice and a guitar comes into his possession soon enough. While the film is more than engaging, the real joy comes from Gene Autry shining on screen performing timeless Western ballads. Racing to stop the bad guys and restore his identity, Autry dazzles in Oh, Susanna! Title #1: Oh, Susanna! Production Date: 1936 Running Time: 95 minutes Brief Description: Director: Joseph Kane. Starring: Gene Autry, Smiley Burnette, Earl Hodgins, Donald Kirke

Brief Synopsis of DVD: Singing Cowboy George Houston returns as The Lone Rider in Outlaws of Boulder Pass. Featuring a veteran and excellent cast of western film fame, Outlaws is shameless gun-slinging fun. Smokey Hammer’s (Dennis Moore) ranch is under attack by a band of outlaws. The Lone Rider, with sidekick Al “Fuzzy” St. John, comes to aid Smokey and the gunfights are tremendous. Then the film takes a softer tone as Houston courts the gorgeous Marjorie Manners, crooning tunes like “Let Me Keep Roamin’ the Prairie” and “The Grass is Always Green in Sunshine Valley.” Nothing but enjoyable popcorn entertainment, Outlaws of Boulder Pass is pistol and saddle fun at its best. Title #1: Outlaw's of Boulder Pass Production Date: 19 Running Time: 59 minutes Brief Description: Director: Sam Newfield. Starring: George Houston, Al St John, Dennis Moore, Marjorie Manners, I. Stanford Jolley

Brief Synopsis of DVD: Six-Gun Rhythm features masterful crooner Tex Fletcher as a singing Wild West hero, but there’s a twist: Fletcher isn’t a cowboy! Most unusual for these films, Fletcher is a football star on the East Coast who’s heading out West to investigate his father’s murder. The film is a startlingly fresh blend of action and song, making it one of the best Westerns of the nineteen thirties. Six-Gun Rhythm builds to a (literally) blistering climax, when Fletcher takes on his father’s murderer in a sandstorm! Though Fletcher would not go on to a long movie career, at least he left us this nugget of cinematic Wild West gold. Title #1: Six Gun Rhythm Production Date: 1939 Running Time: 57 minutes Brief Description: Starring: Tex Fletcher, Joan Barclay, Ralph Peters, Reed Howes
- Rare & historic film transferred to DVD format and preserved for posterity - DVD menus and search capabilities - 47 Minutes Running Time
Brief Synopsis of DVD: As the title betrays, Songs and Saddles is a quaint and enjoyable piece of Wild West musical Americana. Gene Austin was already a country music star, possibly the first ever true “crooner.” Songs and Saddles puts Austin on center stage, playing a cowboy hero who stops every once in a while to play a tune or two. In fact, Austin embarked on a singing tour with the film, showing it at his performances. The story is a western classic: a rancher is trying to be bought out by villains who know the value of the land is about to skyrocket. Austin does surprisingly well in the saddle for a first time cowboy, but the real joy of the film is to be found in the wonderful music. Songs and Saddles is a great way to enjoy country music from the nineteen thirties. Title #1: Songs and Saddles Production Date: 1938 Running Time: 47 minutes Brief Description: Director: Harry L. Fraser. Starring: Charles King, Lynne Berkley, Gene Austin

Brief Synopsis of DVD: Dorothy Page is Hollywood’s first and only singing cowgirl! Though the concept might have done better financially after the women’s rights movement, the crooning female western heroine still works quite well. In The Singing Cowgirl, Page is a rancher who uncovers a plot by a corrupt government official to steal her neighbor’s gold-rich land. Murder and treachery abounds, and Page enlists the help of a handsome drifter (Dave O’Brien) to fight off the bad guys. Though the action is fun, most of the film’s effervescent charm comes from the Page’s beautiful contralto voice. There are also some hysterically unintentionally goofy lines, like “edgier than a rattlesnake in a pickle barrel,” making The Singing Cowgirl the perfect throwback film to enjoy with popcorn on a Sunday afternoon. Title #1: The Singing Cowgirl Production Date: 1939 Running Time: 56 minutes Brief Description: Starring: Dorothy Page, Dave “Tex” O’Brien, Vince Barnett, Dix Davis
- Rare & historic film transferred to DVD format and preserved for posterity - DVD menus and search capabilities - 60 Minutes Running Time
Brief Synopsis of DVD: Trouble at Melody Mesa is a comedic western that was made mostly to showcase country western musical performers Cal Shrum and other popular musicians of the nineteen forties. The amusingly campy plot is overrun with the funny caricatures, but the real entertainment comes from the musical escapades. Cal Shrum and the Rhythm Rangers are the centerpiece, but they are joined by a number of nifty cameos. The Yodeling Rangerette and Brad King, who was sidekick to Johnny Nelson for years, are the highlights. Trouble at Melody Mesa is a healthy dose of tumble weed porch music good times. Title #1: Trouble at Melody Mesa Production Date: 1949 Running Time: 60 minutes Brief Description: Starring: Brad King, Cal Shrum, I. Stanford Jolley.
