It is our pleasure to present, for your consideration, this handsome and very nice Classical Empire Flame Mahogany Gothic Secretary with Bookcase Top (Circa: 1840).  This handsome Secretary has a lift-off Bookcase Glass Door Top and weighs approximately 100 pounds total and measures 61 ¾” in total height (from the floor to the top of the Bookcase top,  33 ¼” in height (from the floor to the top of the writing surface), 41" in width (top crown), 39” in width (body), and 20” in depth. The measurements of the inside of the bookcase top are 14” in height (from the top of the shelf) and 35 ¼” in width and 7 ½” in depth.  The details on this piece exude the understated elegance that one would expect from a Classical Empire piece.

This very nice Classical Empire Flame Mahogany Secretary breaks down into two pieces for shipping purposes.  The lovely lift-off Bookcase Glass door top is graced with elegant Gothic Arches and a beautiful flame mahogany flared crown.  There are three individual panes of glass in each door.  The doors open to reveal an interior that consists of one fixed shelf measuring 35 ¼” wide and  7 ½” deep.  Beneath the fixed shelf are two storage compartments. These two storage compartments are separated by a beautiful petite flame mahogany interior center drawer with a wooden pull.  Two small flame mahogany dovetailed exterior drawers with intact locks, brass key escutcheons and wooden knob pulls sit beneath the glass doors to complete the top section of this wonderful secretary.   

The base of this beautiful Secretary has a hidden hinged slant top that  opens to reveal a rich burgundy felt writing surface.  Two slender, retractable, recessed side support bars are found on either side of the first of three large flame mahogany drawers.  These retractable support bars are designed to be used to add additional support for  the writing surface.  Ample storage is found in the three large flame mahogany dovetailed drawers, all of which are graced with brass key escutcheons and wooden pulls.  Two of these large flame mahogany drawers have intact locks but the bottom drawer does not.  A tasseled key that works with all of the locks is included.

Finally, elegant turned front and back feet complete this handsome Secretary. This is the kind of special piece that would be beautiful in any room of your home.
