This is a balsa wood model kit of a U.S. Coast Guard 82 Foot Patrol Boat of the "Point Class". Many of these cutters were constructed and used in many ports throughout the U.S. This model is of the USCGC Point Hannon (WPB-82355) which was last stationed at Jonesport, Maine and recently decommissioned. The model is 10.25" long, 2.125 beam to a scale of 1/8" = 1'. The kit contains drawings, Bill of Material, construction notes, painting guide and names and numbers to glue onto the model. Sheets of balsa wood, scribed to be cut out, are included for the "lift" or "bread & butter" method of construction. The construction is hand made and consistes of cutting images from the balsa wood sheets with a sharp tool. The images are the "lifts" that form the hull and cabins when stacked together to form the piece. Cutting, trimming, and sandpapering are necessary to prepare the pieces for painting. The drawings are designed for a scratch built model; i.e., no manufactured parts. Glue and paint are not included. |
