Antique Stoneware 2-gallon Crock With freehand drawing in cobalt blue of the number “2” and the curlicue artwork decoration, NEW BRIGHTON POTTERY WORKS Pennsylvania, Late 19th century. The hand formed and freehand painted utilitarian crock is in great condition, with minor rim chips (please see images). The potter left a grooved slash mark on the back and it was glazed over, it is not a crack. Cream glazed outside and brown on the inside. Thanks to a kind e-bay scholar the following information was provided: ".... the design you refer to as curlicues are actually the initials for "New Brighton Pottery Company" of New Brighton, PA. If you look at the crock you can make out the letters....C. Talbot" Height: 11 ½” Diameter at Base: 7 ½” Outside diameter at Rim: 7 ½” Inside diameter at rim: 6 ½” It weighs about 8 lbs Great for country kitchen decor or to store all your long handled wooden spoons.
