Random musings-
Electroless "ionic bonding" has its limitations.
Silver Restorer will plate silver onto copper based metals only. It will not plate onto tin or "pot metal", stainless steel or several metals and alloys commonly used as base metals for electroplating such as nickel, German Silver or Britannia Metal. Additionally, while it will lay down a layer of pure silver on compatible metals, the thickness of the silver layer that can be produced with this method is much thinner than the plate you can get with professional electroplating. Of course, it is a whole lot less costly!How long will it last? Hard to say, as it depends on use, conditions and even the quality of your silver. We can say it will last considerably longer than similar products as it contains a built in metal protector/tarnish inhibitor. It's so easy to use, you can maintain your silver with a quick touch up or periodic polishing with more Silver Restorer.
As with any plating, best results are achieved when surfaces are prepared properly. Ideally, metal should be polished and buffed to a shine BEFORE plating. The plating action will plate scratches and gouges making them less noticeable, but will not fill them in. Silver Restorer is a gentle polish than can be used safely on all sterling or silver plate. The cleaning and shining process is designed to preserve the patina of antique silver.
