Columbine's scientific name is Aquilegia canadensis

Columbine was once considered as the United States National Flower because of the flower’s resemblance to the talon of the Bald Eagle.  Although the contest went to the American Rose, Columbine remains a truly unique and beautiful flower.  Blooming in its second and subsequent years, Columbine’s bright red bell-like flower with yellow center can be seen from April through early August. 

Columbine grows to a height of 2 to 3 feet and has a very deep root system that enables it to survive drought-like conditions.  And though it can survive in drought-like conditions and often prefers dryer soil, it needs moist environments for its seedlings to germinate and mature.  Columbine also prefers sunny to partially sunny environments and can be found in a wide variety of landscapes including rocky woods, meadows, hillsides, and gravelly shorelines.  

These seeds are hand-picked from the plant's native habitat (all are native to the United States). Hand picking ensures that the seeds are picked when they are ripe and also ensures that your packet is filled with seed from this plant ONLY.

These are not grown in a nursery. To preserve their quality the seeds are taken from the plant as it grows in the wild.
