Palstar's engineers immediately undertook a modernization and improvement program. Palstar's Command Technologies amplifiers now incorporate a microprocessor-based controller to provide more precise T/R and electronic bias sequencing.
The amplifiers now feature true step-start, limiting in-rush current to the HV power supply and also to the tube filaments. This translates into greater reliability and tube life, since the HV rectifier, filter stack, tube filaments, and even the fuses, are not stressed on startup.
The new keying interface is now opto-isolated and fully compatible with solid-state transceivers, requiring the transceiver's keying circuit to only sink 20mA @ 5VDC.
The controller, HV power supply, and tuned input circuit boards are now fully silk-screened and solder-masked, with plug-in connections enabling them to be easily removed for repair or trade out.
The Commander HF-2500 MAGNUM is a no-compromise HF high-power classic. A grounded grid, class AB2 HF linear power amplifier, the Commander HF-2500 MAGNUM utilizes a pair of Eimac 3CPX800A7 pulse rated ceramic metal triodes. These robust tubes give the HF-2500 MAGNUM a 100% duty cycle at its rated 1500 Watts output with nominal 50 Watts of drive, making it the logical choice for high duty cycle modes such as RTTY and SSTV.
The no-compromise design includes effective tube protection, a massive band switch and spectral purity that established a higher standard in amateur radio amplifiers.
The Commander HF-2500 MAGNUM is identical to the Commander HF-2500 except that the MAGNUM features a full-wave rectifier in the high voltage power supply, while the HF-2500 has a voltage doubler high voltage power supply.
