You are bidding on an excellent, super-heavily cast pewter Alaska commemorative belt buckle. Made by the Siskiyou Buckle Co., Inc., of Williams, Oregon. Their mould Z 20, copyright 1983. See the photo. This is, in my opinion, the finest of the 3 Alaska buckles from my father's collection that are currently on eBay.
The casting is exceptional, and also Alaska-big (almost 1/2 pound), with full detail front and back. The front detail is easily 1/4 inch in relief, very 3-D, and the back sports full detail and makers' marks and text. The text block at the top center of the back of the buckle reads:
Alaska is the Last Frontier ...
unspoiled and free. It is more
than a state. Alaska is an
experience and a challenge.
There is a cast-in mark at the upper left of the back of the buckle that may be the mould-makers monogram. The Siskiyou Buckle Co. crest is at lower right, the "Z-20" mould mark is at upper right, and the copyright block is below the text block in the center. This one comes with a box bearing a small green and gold foil label at the center of the top, "Kobuk Valley Jade Co, Mt. Alyeska, Alaska". I do not know if this box is original to the buckle. This buckle looks to be made for belts 1 1/2 to possibly 1 3/4-inch (38 to possibly 45 mm) wide.
My father bought this buckle new in Alaska in the mid-1980s. It has never been on a belt, let alone worn, so
it is NEW / MINT! Dad's gone now, and I don't have his connection to the 49th State, so I need to find a new home for this beautiful buckle. Thanks for helping me out. Two more Alaska buckles from Dad's collection are also up with this one.
The buckle will be shipped within the US via Priority Mail. International shipment will be done by US Post First Class International. These services represent the best blend of practicality for me, and short, secure transit time for you.
Please ask your questions early! I have no desire to send you something you are not informed about! Bid with confidence, thanks.
