Common Minerals & Rocks of Virginia Kit Book, Specimens, Box
The boxed set of 24 rock and mineral specimens offered in this auction includes a book titled "Identification Guide Common Minerals & Rocks of Virginia." The box has a silver label on the end marked Ward's Natural Science Establishment, Inc./ Rochester, N.Y. - Monterey, Calif.
The book is titled "Identification Guide Common Minerals & Rocks of Virginia" by Gustav B. Baetcke and is dated 1961. It is Information circular 3 from the Virginia Division of Mineral Resources, has 51 pages, black and white illustrations, and a fold out map of the state of Virginia with key to markings where the minerals and rocks are found. It is in like new condition.
The 24 specimens are numbered and displayed in individual cubicles. Inside of the box lid has a colored map, numbered identification of the minerals and rocks included, and statement of how rocks and mineral play a part in our everyday lives. Included are 10 minerals-mica, rutile, quartz, calcite, feldspar, ilmenite, gypsum, kyanite, anhydrite, zinc ore, and 14 rocks-granite, basalt, sandstone, coal, slate, schist, clay shale, greenstone, gneiss, diabase, limestone, nelsonite, soapstone, gravel conglomerate.
Top of the box has an illustrated explanation of the many ways rocks and minerals affect our lives. It has a brown faux leather cover and is complete. One corner of the bottom portion is split. Otherwise it is in good condition.

Transaction must be completed and payment received within 10 days after close of auction or non-paying bidder will be registered with ebay and item will be relisted.
