Issued as a result of the dire need for money to finance the Civil War, the need of the new aspiring nation, the Confederate States of America to institute a monetary system and the hoarding of coins after the secession of the 11 Southern States, the new Confederate Notes were introduced. Issue of February 17, 1864 this $100 note depicts a vignette of 2 Confederate soldiers and the busts of Lucy Holcombe Pickens and George Wythe Randolph.
