Cool Edit Pro is a multitrack digital audio recorder, editor, and mixer for Windows NT, 95, 98, and Windows XP. To use it, you need only a PC compatible computer running one of these operating systems, one or more Windows-compatible sound cards, and the desire to create some great audio.

Designed as a complete audio environment, Cool Edit Pro puts into one package all the functionality you need to take an audio project from concept to completion. You can use Punch In and record multiple takes to get each track just right, and Cool Edit Pro's support for multiple sound cards gives you complete freedom in routing your audio. Once you’ve recorded your tracks (up to 64 tracks!), you can apply Cool Edit Pro’s unmatched DSP and editing power to tweak individual tracks and add the effects you need. When you’re ready to mix, snap-to guides, crossfades, and separate level, pan, mute, and solo controls for each track will help you get it done.

While Cool Edit Pro provides an all-in-one audio solution, it also works with the rest of your audio tools as part of your studio. Support for Microsoft’s DirectX/ActiveMovie protocol means you can use DSP modules from leading manufacturers like Waves and QTools from within Cool Edit Pro. If your needs go beyond digital audio to include working with MIDI or video, you will find Cool Edit Pro’s MIDI/SMPTE synchronization provides seamless integration with these media.

Though Cool Edit Pro is loaded with features, it doesn't encumber you with excess windows.
