Up for auction is Crayola's 1991 Limited Edition tin box of Collector's Colors, including 72 crayons (the usual 64 colors, plus 8 retired colors). The tin is still in its original shrink wrap and is in mint condition.

The first box of Crayola crayons was made in 1903 and sold for 5 cents. It contained 8 colors: brown, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet and black.
In 1958 Crayola introduced the largest Crayola crayon box in its history, the 64 box, featuring a built-in sharpener.
In early 1990, Crayola crayons' classic assortment, a cherished memory of childhood, got brighter. That's when 8 new colors were introduced: dandelion, wild strawberry, vivid tangerine, fuchsia, teal blue, royal purple, jungle green and cerulean. They were introduced in response to children's requests for brighter, bolder crayon colors.
To make room for the 8 new colors in the 64 box, 8 others were inducted into the Crayola Hall of Fame in Easton, Pennsylvania. Those retired colors were:
green blue
raw umber
orange yellow
violet blue
maize
lemon yellow
blue gray
orange red It was the first time is crayon history that any color had been retired from active duty.
Since August 1990, more than 25,000 children and adults have visited the Crayola Hall of Fame to see the five foot tall replicas of the retired crayon colors. Crayola has received thousands of letters and phone calls requesting that the retired colors be made available once again. This tin was produced back in 1991 in response to the public's request.
This Collector's Colors tin contains a 64 box with the new colors and a specially designed 8 color box featuring all the retired colors.
