Crystal FT-243 8549 KC 8.549 MHz Radio Ch 278 1944

Here is one vintage radio crystal, 8549 KC or 8.549 MHz. I've sold some crystals in the past and didn't know if they worked or not. The ones I'm selling now are recent arrivals and I decided to buy a cheap crystal tester kit (bought here on eBay). The tester has two transistor stages, one for the oscillator, and another for an LED driver. I figured the output of the oscillator stage could be connected to my digital multi-meter that can measure frequency. It does work but keep in mind that this is not a precision circuit, designed for qualitative analysis (yes or no) for a wide range of operation. Plus, at these frequencies, the meter has a accuracy of about ±0.15 MHz. That being said, after testing 21 FT-243 crystals, the meter's reading has only varied ±.03 MHz from the frequency marked on the crystal, this one checks out at 8.56 MHz. The crystal's case is made of Bakelite or a similar plastic material with a front plate made out of the same held on by screws and nuts. The two pins have about a 0.092” diameter and 0.500” spacing, as is the standard for this size crystal holder. Other markings not visible in the picture: top and bottom "358" side "APR 26 '44." On the back there is an old piece of masking tape hand marked “3.” About 0.5 oz actual weight.
