Here is an opportunity for the discerning drummer to get his own custom drum kit built for a price that is much lower than you would pay from the larger name companies. Let me give you some background on out company. Hard Bop Drums is based in
Phoenix, AZ and has been building custom drums for 6 years. Owner and operator, Rob Schuh, is a
professional Jazz drummer with over 35 years of drumming experience. Rob has performed with such Jazz greats as
Jaco Pastorius,
John Medeski, Joe Henderson,
Ernie Watts,
Frank Vignola, Tony Malaby,
Charlie Rouse,
Brian Bromberg, Steve Bailey and many others. What we are offering is 2 shell choices and various lug choices. The price will include a Dunnett Rail tom mount on the bass drum and triple flanged hoops. If you are interested in die cast hoops, please e mail us at
rschuh@yahoo.com. The shells that we are using for these drums are not the generic Keller Maple shells that 9000 other companies use. We are offering Keller's fantastic Mahogany Vintage and Maple Vintage shells. The Mahogany Vintage shells were produced to be like the old shells used by companies like Slingerland, Ludwig and many others in the 60s and 70s. The big advantage is that they are made with modern technology, so their quality is amazing. The Vintage Mahogany shells are made up of 3 plies of Mahogany, 3 plies of Poplar with Maple reinforcement hoops. In the past, the reinforcement hoops were needed to keep the shells in round. Today's shells do not need them for support because of the technological advances in shell manufacturing. The hoops are there now for the "Vintage" sound. The Vintage Maple shells are made from 3 plies of Maple, 3 plies of Poplar with Maple reinforcement hoops. The reinforcement hoops in the Mahogany shells are 1.5" deep on the toms and snares and 2" deep on the bass drums. The reinforcement hoops on the Maple shells are 1 1/4" deep on toms and snares and 1 3/4" on the bass drums. Both shells offer a great warm tone and have a very broad dynamic and tuning range. They are close in sound, but the Mahogany shells are a tad more warm sounding and the Maple are a bit more open sounding. Many people make their choice just based on which shell they like the look of more. The price includes a wrap finish or natural clear lacquer. The only wrap that is not available is Champagne Sparkle. The lugs that are offered are shown in the photos. You can get the small single sided COB tube lugs, full length tube lugs, any of the Ego Drum Supply lugs:
http://www.egodrumsupply.com/ and Beavertail lugs:
http://tinyurl.com/ywk6y3. The drums will come with Coated Remo Ambassadors or a combination of Coated and Clear. Build time on these
kits will be 3 weeks or less. Compare that to the other Custom drum companies! :-) Shipping in the US will be $125.00 and International shipping will be $200.00. These are amazing sounding drums and will draw rave reviews from all the other musicians you play with. If you have any questions, feel free to e mail us at
rschuh@yahoo.com. We also specialize in solid stave, segment and now are offering steam bent snares and kits. You can see them at our web site hardbopdrumsdotcom. We accept Pay Pal, US Postal Money Orders, Wire transfers and cash if you want! :-)
